Looking beyond the right and wrong answers

When I assess a child, I'm interested in much more than whether they can read a word or spell it correctly.

I'm looking at how they're approaching the task, what they can do independently and where things start to get tricky.

I explore how their reading, spelling and writing skills are developing, including accuracy, fluency and how consistently they can apply what they've learnt.

Those observations help me build a clearer picture of their strengths and the skills that need attention.

Personalised Literacy Intervention

Where understanding turns into purposeful teaching

Once we understand a child's learning needs, we can make better decisions about what to teach.

As a Sounds-Write practitioner, I use explicit, structured literacy teaching, adapting activities and support to meet each child's needs.

You'll often find us manipulating words, exploring spelling patterns, thinking carefully about sounds and celebrating those little moments when something finally clicks!

I pay attention to how children respond, where they're making progress and what still needs support.

The pathway isn't the same for every child. That's exactly the point.

Not every assessment leads to ongoing intervention. Sometimes the recommendations give families and schools the direction they need to continue supporting a child.
